Pallam Raju assures total support to RGU
NAHARLAGUN, Feb 9: Union Minister for Human Resource Development Dr. Pallam Raju has assured fullest support of the central government to the infrastructural and academic development of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU). He gave the assurance, while addressing the students and faculty members of the University at Rono Hills today.
Every possibility will be explored to develop and expand the university in all sphere in the 12th five year plan to make it a world class university with special focus on quality education, the HRD minister said.
Expressing concern that India lacked top world class educational institutions, there is need to create one, he said and asked the faculty members to give more emphasis on research works and quality education. He expressed the hope that with committed leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and dedicated Vice Chancellor, the University will certainly scale new heights in the next few years.
While suggesting the faculty members and the students to strive harder and influence the colleges and educational institutions around them with their knowledge and skills asked them to fit into the larger game plan of look east policy of the Central government.

Tuki had sought Centre's special focus for development of infrastructure in the state's education sector during his earlier meeting with Raju.
He had pleaded for special packages for Rajiv Gandhi University and other upcoming universities, and release of central grant regularly for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to ensure timely payment of salaries to the teachers.
After being apprised of various drawbacks and problems, Raju had assured, "There will be no shortfall from my ministry and development of education scenario of Arunachal Pradesh would continue in an accelerated pace with hundred percent assistance for meaningful human resources development while taking care of welfare of teachers and employees.”
Later in the afternoon, the Union Minister accompanied by Tuki, Education Minister Bosiram Siram and MP Takam Sanjoy visited NERIST.
During his visit, the Union Minister inaugurated the newly installed 1000 KW Solar Panels at NERIST for the harnessing solar energy, the recently renovated and upgraded Education Technology Cell (ET Cell) of the Institute. The role played by the ET Cell for both the facilitation of internet services and the conduct of regular Seminar/Conferences at the Institute were highlighted to the team by the NERIST Director Prof. Dipankar Pal.
He also briefed the ministers about the vision of the Institute, its role for the region in the foreseeable future. He requested the Minister to support the Institute in addressing some of its pressing needs.

Ete exhorts youth for selfless service
ITANAGAR, Feb 9: The Alien Gods, a well known death metal band from Arunachal Pradesh, rocked Aalo audience during the third edition of Multi Media Campaign on HIV/AIDS which has been rechristened as “Live Another Day; Journey Against AIDS” at Donyi Polo Ground today.
Carnal Sins, the winner of last year’s MMC Red Rockfest Contest, who is touring the 8 districts along with Alien Gods to create awareness on HIV also enthralled the fans by its head banging performance.
Two other rock bands, Blood Dust and Soul of Phoenix also entertained the audience to its satisfaction. The members of the rock bands during its performance asked the youth to stay safe against HIV and drugs. They also told the youths about the four routes of HIV transmission.
Attending the programme, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Gadam Ete exhorted the youths to stay safe from HIV/AIDS.
While appreciating All Aalo Youth Welfare Association for extending yeomen service to the society, he said that NGO should work for the welfare of the people. Creating awareness on health like HIV is a selfless service to the people and we need youth who can really give selfless service to the society, he said. Emphasising on the need to take the campaign to the rural level also he said that the IEC materials on HIV should be developed in different dialects of the state for better understanding.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Marki Loyi asked youth to take active part in creating awareness on HIV. He said that HIV/AIDS is preventable but not curable. So it is very important that we learn about HIV at early age.
Both Ete and Loya appealed youth to come forward for HIV testing and also to volunteer themselves for HIV test in ICTC camp set up at the venue during MMC at Aalo.
Yumring Nokpa, General Secretary, ArNP+, who is also accompanying the MMC team in all the venues while sharing his experience appealed youth to not discriminate people living HIV.
Highlighting the aims and objective of the MMC, APSACS Deputy Director (IEC) Tashor Pali said that Rock music and other entertainment activities are very important to keep the youths mind healthy. The festivals also bring into light the lifestyle of the community through their unique dresses, food, dance and music.
Attending the celebration, local MLA Techi Kaso appealed to the community members to preserve and protect their unique culture, tradition and beliefs for which he urged the senior members of the community to lead the younger generation from the front. He also exhorted the youths of the community to take part in such celebration with enthusiasm as festivals reflect our diverse cultural heritage.
Responding to a request made by the organizing committee for a festival ground, Kaso assured to extend financial assistance in acquiring it. He, however, suggested the organizing committee to look up the plot first.

Drive against tinted car windows continues

Traders oppose forceful donation collection, bandh calls

ACS submits memo to Pallam
ITANAGAR, Feb 09: Alleging corruption, injustice and inequality in job reservation towards local population in North Eastern Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and violation of recruitment rules by people running the affairs of the Institute, Arunachal Civil Society (ACS), in a memorandum to Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD), has demanded for immediate filling up of backlog vacancies for APSTs.

ITANAGAR, Feb 09: An Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) sponsored training cum demonstration programme on ‘Vaccination against Ranikhet disease in chicken was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Changlang at Tikhak Taipy basti under Nampong circle yesterday. All together 12 farmers participated in the programme.
The Subject Matter Specialist in Animal Science of the KVK imparted knowledge on mode of transmission, clinical signs, necessary preventive and controlling measures for Ranikhet disease in chicken. Besides, he also demonstrated the methods of vaccination in chicken against the disease by using F1 and R2B vaccine.
Programme Coordinator of the KVK suggested the trainees to utilize their gained knowledge in practical field to prevent the disease.
AR provides basic amenities to villagers
ITANAGAR, Feb 09: The 18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 25 Sector Assam Rifles has constructed three toilet blocks at Dogpi village for improving the villagers’ living standard.
The toilet blocks constructed under Operation Samaritan was handed over to villagers of Dogpi on February two by post commander 18 Assam Rifles deployed at Dogpi.
Dogpi is a small village located 19 km (approx) from Jairampur, Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh which falls under ‘area of responsibility’ of 18 Assam Rifles. Due to remoteness of the area, the villagers of the Dogpi region were devoid of basic civic amenities.
Construction of the toilet blocks at the village would help villagers main their health and hygiene and generate goodwill for the armed forces deployed the in the insurgency infested area.
Post Commander Dogpi explained the role and responsibility of the Assam Rifles in maintaining law and order besides working for the people’s welfare. He also advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the asset.
